In collaboration with The David Ross Foundation, Gabrieli Roar present Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas. To perform this Trojan story of love and betrayal, royal duty and warfare, 120 secondary school students from the David Ross Educational Trust will be joined by Gabrieli’s world-class professional musicians, with mezzo-soprano Bethany Horak-Hallett in the title role and conducted by Paul McCreesh.

Musicfest is delighted to present the Wales premiere of the opera  “The Railway Children” .

This is a new opera by Mark-Anthony Turnage, adapted from Edith Nesbit’s classic children’s book, and premiered at Glyndebourne during the 2025 season. Bethany will reprise the role of Yolanda, having performed it in the 2025 premiere.

The orchestra is that of the Welsh Nationa Opera conducted by Iwan Teifion Davies.

Or how about just over an hour? This February, join us at Fidelio Cafe for two intimate evenings of love-themed music inspired by Duke Orsino’s immortal words from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. After meeting at an Italian wedding feast in 1600, we’ll then pay homage to the master of melancholy John Dowland, summon gods and dancefloors through the music of Henry Purcell, indulge in a sorbet of folk music, then get très romantique with gallant music by Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Telemann, and autres. Expect heart-rending melodies, impassioned virtuosic flair, and tender moments of stillness. Texts and translations will be provided.

The OAE Night Shift in Brixton

Bethany joins lutenist Sergio Bucheli focusing on the works of Bayard Rustin who worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr and was the main organiser of the March on Washington in 1963. He was also involved with the early music revival in New York during the 1950s and 1960s having learnt the lute whilst in jail in California for the “crime of sodomy” (as it was at the time). Tonight’s setlist features baroque songs that he recorded and performed in New York by Purcell, Cornysh and Dowland, as well as his own pastiche Elizabethan song ‘I saw her as I came and went’.
